little confused about yr views on this one. so you want the stray dog menace to be tackled and you prefer that they be culled cos its an immediate solution. but did you know that studies from all over the world have shown that culling is not a solution to the stray dog menace - even if 5 stray dogs are left, the stray dog population will go back to its original number in five years' time. Sterilisation is a more effective long-term approach to control the stary dog numbers. But this by itself is not enough. We have to exercise hufge amounts of civic sense to control the menace - effective waste food disposal and garbage control measures have to be adopted. Neighbourhoods must assume charge of the strays in their areas and ensure they are fed.. Do you know, in my area in Rustam Bagh in Bangalore - a cul de sac about a kilometer deep and 500 metres wide, there is a woman who feeds the 20-odd strays every single day with food she buys - she spends an average of 100 bucks a day. She says, if all of us contribute even Rs 5 a day, we can ensure the dogs are well fed and looked after and do not turn aggressive. I have joined her and help her whenever I can. I have two kids aged 4 and 2....
